Fructosamine
Synonym - Specimen - Reference Value - Method - Description - Indication - Interpretation
Synonym : Glycated albumin
Specimen : Serum (1 mL)
Reference Value : Normal 174-286 micron mol/L
Diabetic controlled 210 - 421 micron mol/L
Uncontrolled 268 - 870 micron mol/L
Method : Spectrophotometry
Description
Fructosamine is the result of covalent linkage between glucose and albumin or other proteins.
Similar to glycated Hemoglobin , Fractosamine can be used to monitor long-term control of glucose in diabetics .
It has a shorter half-life than glycated hemoglobin and is thought to be more sensitive to shorter term fluctuations in glucose concentrations .
Some glycated hemoglobin methods are affected by hemoglobin variants .
Fructosamine is not subject to this interference .
Indication
Evaluate diabetic control
Interpretation
Increased in : Diabetic patients with poor
glucose control
Decreased in : Sever hypoproteinemia
