A : G Ratio

A : G Ratio

- Most automated chemistry analyzers measure albumin and total serum protein . Globulins are determined by subtraction .
- A : G ratio = albumin divided by globulin
- Alterations in A : G  ratio suggest unequal loss or over production of protein fractions
- The A / G ratio is useful in the evaluation of liver and kidney disease . A / G ratio less than 1.0 is clinically significant

- Increases in A : G ratio observed in case of decreased globulins ( hypogammaglobulinemia ) - decreases in total protein

- Decreases in A : G ratio observed in case of decreased albumin ( hypoalbuminemia ) or increased globulin ( hypergammaglobulinemia ) .
